Keeping your machines running at their best

CNC machine service, repair & support

Mobile CNC service engineer based in Glastonbury, Somerset, working nationwide. Servicing, breakdowns, installs and accuracy checks on CNC machine tools.

What we do

How we can help

Service, repair and set-up for CNC machine tools, working directly with you rather than through a call centre.

Preventative maintenance

Scheduled services with every check logged against the machine. Intervals set around how hard your machine works, not just the calendar. Every mill service includes a ballbar test.

Breakdowns and repairs

Fault diagnosis and repair across the whole machine, whether the cause is mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic. Whatever has stopped production, we find the root cause and put it right. Where parts are needed, you get a clear plan before any work goes ahead.

Siting, installs and commissioning

Siting, levelling, set-up and commissioning of new machines, ready for production. Plus full decommissioning and recommissioning when a shop moves.

Ballbar and geometry

Renishaw QC20-W ballbar testing to ISO 230-4, measuring and correcting how accurately your machine moves, so parts hold tolerance and problems show up early.

Operator training

Practical sessions for your operators on your own machines: daily checks, basic care and confident, safe operation.

Accuracy checks

Precision you can measure

A ballbar test shows how accurately a machine really moves. We test with a Renishaw QC20-W wireless ballbar, to ISO 230-4. The trace picks up backlash, squareness, servo mismatch and wear long before they show up as scrapped parts.

A ballbar test is carried out on every mill service, and the plot is sent to you alongside your signed service report PDF.

Regular testing gives you a record to compare against, so you can plan the fix instead of reacting to a breakdown.

Preventative maintenance

Haas VF-6/50 service

A full preventative maintenance service on a 50-taper vertical machining centre. Every system was checked, with covers removed to clean and inspect the ballscrews, linear guides and way covers. The service found a blocked lubrication system, and a grease-to-oil lubrication conversion is planned for the next visit to prevent it happening again.

Repair

VMC gearbox rebuild

A machining centre gearbox stripped down, worn parts replaced and the unit rebuilt, so the machine went back into production rather than waiting on a replacement gearbox.

Customer portal

Your machines, on record

Each customer gets their own secure login to the AvalonCNC customer portal: one place for your company's machine roster and the full history of every machine on your site, plus a simple way for your operators to keep on top of daily care.

  • Every visit report sheet logged and stored to your login: each service, breakdown and repair, signed on the day, with findings and recommendations, against the machine by serial number
  • Daily, weekly and monthly operator checklists, filled in on a phone by scanning the QR label on the machine
  • Alarms reported straight to us against the right machine, with the alarm code and photos
  • See at a glance which checks are done, missed or flagged as a problem
  • Service due dates and reminders, so maintenance is planned rather than reacted to

Private to your company. The login is held by your service manager, so only they can see your machine roster, reports and history. Operators just scan the QR label on a machine to fill in its checks.

About AvalonCNC

Practical experience. Reliable support.

I've worked on machine tools since 2005, when I began an electrical apprenticeship with a local engineering company. As part of my training I helped maintain the company's machine shop of Mori Seiki turning centres, gaining hands-on experience in PLC programming, fault finding, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

I went on to work as a maintenance engineer at an injection moulding plant, then joined Haas Automation UK as a field service engineer, progressing to senior engineer over 11 years.

I started AvalonCNC to give customers one-to-one support, work across a wider range of machine tools, and help businesses build consistent preventative maintenance plans that cut downtime. What I enjoy most is getting a shop back up and running when its machines are down, whether that's a small engineering workshop or a large established factory.
